Whats in a Name

I found this great link up and I HAD to participate. I read a few of the other posts and I was laughing so hard.
It's also super interesting to hear where everyone else's names came from.
Obviously my name is Candra, but my full first name is Candra Ellen.
Yes that's right two first names.
I also have a cousin named Vickie Sue.
*Insert hillbilly jokes here*
When I was little I hated my name... why?
Because I never had pencils with my name on them.
or license plate keychains
nightmare.

or pencil boxes.
or ANYTHING.
Unless I Sharpied that shit on....which I did.
I also hated that my name was never in any baby books... although for some reason now it is.
Another thing was that my name is CANdra, not KENdra, or SANdra.
I mean it's a pretty simple name but apparently people don't like to sound things out anymore.

Another fun fact is if you google my name you get a lot of Asian men...riddle me that.
You also get my police record...womp womp.
No pretending it's another girl when your the only person in the state named Candra.

When Wikipedia came along they finally knew what was up. Apparently I am a superhero...which we all knew right.

"Candra, sometimes called Kandra is a fictional character, a Mutant supervillainess appearing in Marvel Comics universe.
She is a member of the Externals and has exhibited immensely powerful telekinetic abilities in addition to being immortal."

"Candra's mutant ability is telekinesis, the ability to move objects with the mind.
Candra can use this ability at a molecular level and often uses it to activate latent mutant genes in an individual, granting them active mutant powers. She has also implied that, once given, she can also take these abilities away, presumably by returning the appropriate genes to their latent states. She also uses this ability to heal herself and, apparently, to stave off the aging process.
After having her body destroyed, Candra gained the ability to drain the life force from the death of a victim, which she needs to maintain her own body together."

So good.

I've asked my parents a million times where they got my name and they both say
"I don't know we just liked it"
Oh....Ok.

I tried to google the meaning, because I know it's something like Ray of Light or Sunshine or something and I found this...

Which has a striking resemblance...

So I leave you with that. Where did you get your name? Do you rock two first names like me?

  5. Lol I love your explanation. I hated my name too growing up for the same reason. It was always Jaclyn, Jacqueline, or Jackie on name shit and I don't spell my name those ways and it'll be a cold day in hell before I go by Jackie.

  6. I don't rock two first names but I do rock two middle names. One isn't a confirmation name either. My parents thought it'd be a hoot to give me 2 middle names when I was born. Go figure.

  7. I think you should just tell people that your parents named you after the super hero. Clearly.

  8. When I was growing up, Shawn was pretty much exclusively a boy's name, so I got a lot of, "your parents must have wanted a boy! Hardy har har!" I've also, to this day, had people *expect* me to be male, and they don't have the tact to hide their shock when I show up.....
