A weekend off

This past Friday I posted on Instagram about a digital detox. I vowed to shut off from social media for the weekend and check back in today.

Unfortunately I didn't make it the whole weekend which is really really sad.
I did stay away from it for awhile and I was on my phone way less than I normally am.
The first thing I learned was that I get so much more done.
I finished a book I have been reading forever. I used to read so much. I would fly through books. Now they are piling up everywhere I look.
I missed reading. I missed gettin lost in a book and not being able to put it down.
Not only did I finish a book I started a project I have had on my to-do list for awhile.
I am redoing two dressers for the kids.
As soon as they are done I will do a full post.

The most important thing I learned is that my kids enjoy time with me more when my face isn't in my phone. Same with my husband.
No email is so important that you need to read it RIGHT NOW.
No number of "likes" is going to replace quality time with your kids and family.
While I didn't make it a whole weekend, I want to try harder. I want to keep trying until I don't fail anymore.
Who knows my phone battery might even last a whole day!

  1. I saw that you were doing this, and wondered how you would fare. I'm glad you were honest. Quite certain I wouldn't last the whole weekend either.

  2. I just read an article about how social media has slowed the social aspect of dining out. Kind of made me think of you regarding the detox. It stated that Americans were frustrated that their time spent in a restaurant and how quickly they received their meal was slowed down a ton. Turns out, they were to blame most of the time. Most people sat down and were immediately on their phones without speaking. It took longer to choose meals. Once they did, most people then had to photograph their meals and post to social media. Again, time lost. On and on it went. Sorry to ramble, but the silliness of social median does make us lose precious time in the real world.

  3. I generally leave the phone in the bedroom during the weekend, to try and unplug and it seems to piss people off :) at one point my mom sent G a text telling him I hadn't responded to her FB post or her text, so would he tell me to call. WTF?! It def was not an emergency, but I know that she likes an immediate response, so it makes her pissy.

  4. It is so hard to break away--but it is so worth it! Glad you had a good weekend friend!
